EP Asks Canada to Drop Visa Mandates For Bulgaria, Romania and the Czech Republic

The European Parliament has appealed Canada to life the visa mandates for the nationals of Romania and the Czech Republic, so that it becomes a restriction free visit for people of these countries.

A resolution states that the Parliament is eager to remove the visa requirement as soon as possible. In addition to this proposal, Parliamentarians also discussed case of Czech Republic which was given a visa free proposal during 2007 and 2009. Keeping this facet in mind, MEPs asked to address the issue of Roma nationals as well. Other issues like coming out with a visa office at Canadian Embassy in Prague, in addition to constituting an ace working group on the same issue were also looked upon.

Reports from the Canadian media stated that PM Stephen Harper and the leaders of EU have collaborated at a summit on their assurance to settling down these hindrances and settle down on a common motto of attaining a visa-free travel for all the EU nations to Canada very soon.

According to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohout, the European Commission is playing an active role but could have been more bold and assertive in showing aggression.

Earlier, Canadian government dropped the visa mandates for the nationals of Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania and Hungary in the year 2008 and pledged to make visa free routes for all the EU citizens.

Now an official reply is awaited from the Canadian officials.
