Ex-Tunisian president’s permanent residency is under probe by Canada

The immigration department of Canada is probing the kinship of ex-president of Tunisia who is in Montreal last week is entitled to remain in the nation.

Kinship of previous dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has been entitled for Canadian permanent residency. Now, department is investigating whether any immigration law has been breached due their extended absence from Canada.

According to the law of Canada a permanent resident must fulfill the condition of living in Canada for two years at least within a five-year time slab subjected to lose their permanent residency status. Such candidates will be removed from the country due to their failure to meet the residency criterion or their involvement in a serious offense.

Mr. Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia due to long violent protests against him after enjoying 23 years in power. Clans of Mr. Ali’s wife are prime actors in the Tunisian economy and are charged of benefiting themselves through their influential connections with the regime latterly harming Tunisian economy. Apart from that many prominent family members are accused of several crimes in other countries too.

“Ex-president of Tunisian regime Mr. Ben Ali and his family is not welcome in Canada” stated by The Canadian government.

WikiLeaks revealed last month that the U.S. Embassy in Tunis termed Mr. Ali’s extended family as quasi-mafia engaged in condemnable corruption activities.
