Below are the family requirements a principal applicant under the New Zealand Parent Retirement Category has to meet in order to obtain NZ residence:
- The principal applicant must be a parent of an adult child who is in the Kiwi country as a Kiwi citizen. Otherwise the child can also be a NZ residence class visa holder, however, the visa must not be subject to conditions under section 49 of the NZ Immigration Act 2009; OR
- The principal applicant has no dependent children at all- all of his/her adult children are lawfully and permanently outside the country where the applicant has been lawfully and permanently living; OR
- The centre of gravity of the principal applicant’s family is in the Kiwi country.
Evidence of ‘lawful and permanent’ presence in a country
Evidence that can support that a person is lawfully and permanently in a country may include the following:
- Certified copy of the passport indicating the identity and a residence class visa or permit.
- Certified copies of letters or other documents which indicate the indefinite residence in another country is being granted to the person.
- Certified copy of the passport indicating the identity and nationality of the person.
- Original documents supporting citizenship.
In the case, where a person is not required to hold a visa or permit to live in their nation of residence, the principal applicant must provide the following as evidence:
- Certified copies of registration cards or certificates issued by local police; OR
- Certified confirmation of the person’s residence status from an authenticated source or some government authority.
Evidence of actual residence in a country may include the following:
- Original copy of correspondence addressed to the person
- Certified copy of employment references
- Certified copy of rates demands
- Original copy of income tax returns
- Original copy of mortgage documents
- Original copy of documents indicating that household effects have been moved to that country.
