Former Malaysian DG Released & Cleared Charges of Bribery!

Datuk Wahid Don, the former Director-General of the Malaysian Immigration Department has been discharged and acquitted by a sessions court. Wahid was accused of taking bribe of RM60, 000 in order to permit nationals from Bangladesh to walk into Malaysia two years back.

As per Rosbiahanin Ariffin, the Sessions judge, prosecution could not prove that this was a clear case involving bribery. So, Wahid has been ordered to released and cleared of all charges.

57 years of age, Wahid was accused of accepting RM60, 000 in cash from Datuk Low Chang Hian. This was supposed to be part of the payment in order to fasten the 4337 visas for the Bangladesh nationals to be permitted to enter Malaysia. He was also accused of committing offence at No 3167, Jalan Lembah Ledang, Off Jalan Duta in July 2008. Datuk V. Sithambaran represented Wahid.

On the other hand, the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Malaysia would be submitting an appeal against the decision taken to clear all the charges against Wahid. As per MACC, it is confident that they have a strong case against Wahid and that he was involved in cases of bribery and granting illegal permits to migrants to enter Malaysia. In a statement issued, it said that no specific reasons were given for the decision that has been taken.
