There are plenty of cases where overseas immigrants having experience and education in their native country fail to qualify for a job in another country to where they have migrated to. It is because they don’t have the required work experience of that particular country.
For instance, according to the Toronto Star, a published story said that focused on an immigrant to Canada, with Kenya being her country of origin. She was told by the Immigration officials that she is the perfect choice for Canada, as her experience as a lawyer is something which the country needs.
Amrit Soar, the lady in question, was left in a limbo when she was told that in order to practice law, it was mandatory for her to take some courses, clear some exams and on the verge of that, she cannot work in her field, till the time she don’t complete all these mandates.
She was quoted saying that everywhere she applied for job; they used to ask for Canadian work experience (which indirectly meant that her 18 years experience as a lawyer in Kenya was all wasted?)
Now various organizations including the University of Toronto Law School are intending to turn around this facet. National law firm Fraser Milner became the first ever organization to pay for the internship of lawyers, an aspect which would allow the lawyers to gain work experience in the country as well as money to earn their bread and butter. Certainly a great news for applicants like Amrit Soar.
