The Australian federal government is likely to come up with stricter regulations pertaining to the Australian employers in respect of recruiting workers. Employers may face huge penalties against their wrong doing of appointing illegal workers in the country. Australian immigration minister has recently announced that it will carry out a scrutiny into penalties facing employers who engage themselves in appointing illegal workers.
The move was propelled by the recent figures that showed additional 1271 illegal workers who are engaged in sectors like agriculture, construction and hospitality in the nine months to March 31. The country’s immigration minister feels that this surely indicates how employers are abusing the immigration system.
He further said that a majority of Australian employers follow the right path, but still there are some that try to abuse the country’s immigration system by using illegal workers in a very organized way. Even though government authorities have so far been successful in detecting illegal workers, but they saw little progress in bringing them to trial and labor hire intermediaries.
However, the review announced by the immigration minister will be carried out by a legal expert very soon. Stephen Howells, the person responsible for the operation is likely to interview the employers, other occupational bodies to carry out the operation effectively. This review will analyze the various laws and operations systems in respect of the employers.
