More Immigrants to Canada through Provincial Nominee Program

A recent report has revealed that through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), more and more immigrants are going for settling down in Canada.

Since the year of 2004, an outstanding increase in number of immigrants to Canada under the PNP program has been seen. Next year, the number of immigrants to Canada through PNP is expected to be between 42,000 and 45,000.

According to the Immigration Minister of Canada, Mr. Jason Kenney, Canadian Government has identified that the PNP Program plays a vital role in meeting the needs of the native labour market of Canada. He also said that the Provincial Nominee Program has contributed in a great way in sharing the profits of economic immigrants across the nation.

At present, among all economic immigrants, 26% immigrants are intending for provinces except Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbi, which was 11% in the year of 1997. Among all the provinces under PNP, Manitoba and Alberta are considered as the most demanding destinations.

The PNP of Manitoba has tripled the number of immigrants to the province. In the year of 2004, there were about 4,000 immigrants through PNP to Manitoba, which got increased to nearly about 12,200 in the year of 2010. There were 92% Provincial nominees which belong to economic category admissions and 77% of whole immigration to Manitoba in 2010.

However, PNP of Alberta got increased 18 times more in recent years. In 2004, more than 400 immigrants got admitted to Alberta, whereas in the year of 2010, the number got increased to about 7,500. There were 33% of economic category admissions as Provincial nominees and 23% of whole immigration to Alberta in the year of 2010.

Except Quebec and Nunavut, all other territories and provinces of Canada have Provincial Nominee agreements. The Provincial Nominee Program provides the provinces and territories the right to actively take part in the process of immigrant selection, because they may propose for permanent residents who are able to meet specific needs of the local labour market. According to the Canada-Quebec Agreement, Quebec only has the authority to select immigrants to the province.
