The year end means a new approach towards immigration by the Congress. This is because there would be a turnover in the control of the House with the Republicans taking over from the Democrats.
The above clearly means that there would be a transition from the earlier assistance being provided to the illegal migrants to a new debate emerging. This debate would involve whether or not to grant automatic US citizenship to children of illegal migrants.
With a hardening approach along with the support from the GOP, it would not be wrong to assume for the Republicans to be in favor. At the same time, the GOP is also at stake when it comes to the increasing group of Latino vote. This would make it difficult for the White House and the Senate majority in 2012.
So, legislations catering to interpret the 14th amendment would be debated in the coming session. This would most probably be followed by attempts to press employers to use a web system known as E-Verify to check that all employees are living lawfully in the United States. However, this web system is still being developed.
More so, curbs would be proposed regarding the federal spending especially in those cities which do not work enough for identifying those people who are illegal migrants. More so, not much is being done to reduce the number of such people. It is clear that there has not been much success with Democrats failing for the second consecutive time when it comes to the Dream Act.
On the other hand, the Republicans would aim for a legislation which would cater to the deportation of illegal migrants as well as securing borders to ensure that others don’t walk into the nation. However, the Democrats would still be control of the Senate. They would be defending against the enforcements brought about by the Republicans in the Senate.
