In order to bar the anticipated population of Australia by 2050, the Coalition of Tony Abbott would bring about a cut in the current level immigration, if it comes to power. By 2050, the country is expected to have thirty six million by 2050.
According to the Scott Morrison, spokesperson from the opposition immigration said that the Rudd government has been too flexible regarding immigration which has permitted a surge of immigrants into the country. This has led to the stats brought by Treasury’s Intergenerational Report for 2050 has been found to be inconsistent.
As per Morrison, the Coalition would bring down the average number of immigrants from the current three hundred thousand. This would not be an aspect with regards to the policy of the Coalition.
More so, the growth rate at which the current trend in population is going is at 2.1 percent which is higher than that of Britain, Canada and the United States. This would place the nation ahead of India and China. The main reason for this would be nothing more than immigration. Increase in the fertility rate has minutely contributed to the situation.
However, Morrisson said that the Coalition would give its full support for all the skilled migrants who come to Australia. But other aspects of the immigration such as a family union would be removed. This is to get the policies in balance and control. The programs have to be highly focused towards the target that is productivity through skills.
Morrisson was supported by the Opposition Leader regarding the population of 35.9 million was simply not viable.
On the other hand, Mr. Abbott said that such decisions are taken on a yearly basis. More so, the outcome is yet to be seen.
