India’s Online Visa: Not Much a Hit!

It was on April 1, when India came out with its online facility for providing visas to the citizens of Pakistan. But the irony is that it has been more than a month now but not a single visa has been given, following the online visa facility!

The launch happened with all the “public showing” knowing the fact that it formed an integral part of IVFRT. The scheme plans to plan the entire process of providing visas to overseas applicants, starting from their filing an application to their last steps! The cost t implement these changes would take the scheme to almost Rs 1,000 crore. Also, Pakistan was chosen as the initial nation for the applicants to apply for online visas, followed by other countries including the UK by the mid of the month June.

But is this great news for Pakistani nationals? No, as they are required to give provide some additional documents including a document from an Indian sponsor. Further it is mandatory that the paper should be authorized by an official of India. The worse part is that the nationals of Pakistan intending to apply for online visa are required to fill a tedious and long application form. This is one of the vital reasons as to why not a single application has been recorded for the online visa scheme.

However, the website of Indian High Commission is still attired with an online form which allows the Pakistani nationals to fill the same and hand it over to the High Commission.
