In an attempt to attract more overseas professionals to Canada, the country has come up with a new idea. As each Canadian province has different policies and accreditation bodies when it comes to immigration regulations, the federal government has urged the co-ordination of all the provinces for the very purpose.
The federal government has introduced a national framework, which would probably minimize the time taken by the process of assessing foreign credentials. In order to attain the country’s purpose, legislators in all provinces have to ensure faster application processes and at the same time they should be focused at the goal of protecting the public interest through professional standards.
The federal Pan-Canadian Framework for the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Qualifications set a standard time of 1 year for the evaluation of professional qualifications. For the current year, the government has decided to have faster assessment processes for eight categories- accountants and financial auditors; architects; engineers; medical laboratory technologists; occupational therapists; pharmacists; physiotherapists; and registered nurses. Categories, such as dentists; engineering technicians; licensed practical nurses; medical radiation technologists; physicians; and teachers are most likely to meet the deadline of December, 2012.
The federal government’s new initiative to attract more overseas professionals has been receiving mixed responses from different Canadian provinces, say reports!
