Lawmakers All Praise for Arizona Immigration Law!

No matter how people across the United States are oppose the latest Arizona’s immigration law, which takes its effect on July 29, 2010, lawmakers in as many as twenty other states in the US are in favor of introducing similar legislations. Even though, lawmakers in states like Florida, Idaho, Minnesota and Nebraska are all praise of the Arizona’s controversial law, they are still reviewing the challenges that such a law could face. They are yet to know if boycotts over the law would hurt the state’s economy!

The soon-to-be come into force immigration legislation in Arizona caught the criticism of various groups, as it requires the state’s police to perform immigration checks on anyone, and question his/her immigration status, if they suspect that the person is inside the United States unlawfully. Moreover, any illegal outsider would be entitled to a jail sentence of 6months; a fine of $2,500, as well as federal deportation from the country.

Reportedly, in a few US states, similar immigration legislations have been introduced, however, they are yet to take their effect. And none of the legislations will see its implementation in 2010. Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, Rhode Island and South Carolina are the states which already have such an immigration law in their agendas. Of late, lawmakers of other eighteen states have expressed their willingness of introducing Arizona-like immigration law. Oklahoma is one state which we can see having a tougher immigration legislation in the near future. Chances are there, because the police in the state have already been enjoying that much of power similar to that as depicted by the Arizona law since 2007.

While, lawmakers are appreciating the Arizona immigration law, many civil rights groups have been opposing it, saying the law would create racial discrimination. The debate over the law has been demanding the Obama administration to act over the issue.
