Britain has done a volte face on an important policy program apparently tailored to fight unlawful immigration. During the month of March, this year, the incumbent British Premier, David Cameron, had declared that every landlord would have to duly examine the immigration standing of the tenants, prior to permitting them to occupy their properties in the country even while any landlord found not to have done the test would be lawfully held responsible for a heavy fine.
But, since then, some efforts have been made to dilute the proposals. Reportedly, there were animated situations in the British cabinet while it was being debated that the majority of the British landlords are individuals and not big firms even as for them the burden of still extra formalities would be rather tough to manage.
Still–notwithstanding the objections raised to the tests–efforts are allegedly underway to introduce red-tape in certain ‘high risk zones ‘ heavily populated by large figures of aliens. The same is nearly certain to land the government in soup over charges of bias, and at worse, racial discrimination.
Checks must emphasize immigration indiscretions
The other day, the head of the concerned Landlords Association had declared that landlords ought to do checks on the tenants to make sure they are reliable. He added that the same was the best practice which protects the landlord’s dealings. He further said that the existing checks ought to underline immigration abnormalities, if any.
