Australia, the popular immigration destination of the world is also called the Land of Kangaroos. Every year, in search of better opportunities, several immigrants from other overseas nations migrate to this country and it welcomes them with open heart.
On 7 October, in the National Jobs Forum held in Canberra, , the Australian PM has said that in order to fulfill the shortages of workforces particularly in the Australian mining and resources sector, the native workers should be given the opportunity to fill these vacancies.
The Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard has asked the Australian employers to provide the job opportunities to its native workers for filling up those vacancies.
She also expressed that Australians who are unemployed can be provided with training to fulfill the workers need in the mining sector of Australia. Ms Gillard particularly mentioned the prospective of re-training of workers for retrenched steelworks in Western Australia. She puts emphasis on giving opportunity to the local and rural communities via skills training.
The Council of Trade Unions of Australia has supported what the Australian PM has suggested and expressed that employing the skilled migrants shows the shortage of native skills training on the industry part.
According to Ged Kearney, the President of Australian Council of Trade Unions, the main cause of this issue at present is that the mining sector of the country has not yet invested in skills.
The Australian Government has amended their immigration intake rate in the year of 2009 and reduced to 115,000 for skilled migrants.
However, apart from the imposing limits and current comments, the Government of this country also presented in their Federal Budget on May, that the number of skilled immigrants in the country will be increased in the coming year. They will grant 16,000 more Australian visas to the overseas skilled workers in the next year.
