Natives Don’t Have To Worry About Immigration – It Won’t Hurt You!

According to a study by the Economic Policy Institute, Immigration doesn’t make employees in the U.S. earn less, contrary to what people think! Rather, the workers enjoy a decent pay, courtesy the new Immigration, the study further confirmed.

Statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor further say that the migration of 9.6 million workers during the years 1994 till 2007, enhanced the weekly pay of U.S. born workers by a margin of 0.4 percent

Other stats show that Immigration has played a crucial role in enhancing the wages of U.S. men having post-secondary education. Also, those workers having education till high-level, saw their income crash by a slight margin of 0.2 percent.

EPI economist Heidi Shierholz stated that U.S. born workers don’t compete/clash with the new immigrants for the jobs, according to the report. Rather new immigrants compete with the workers born outside the U.S. as both the groups face similar facets in the job market.

Gender or education does not have much influence on the international workers already working in the U.S. As far as the age factor is concerned, the young generation born in the U.S., having an experience between one to ten years has shown a notable increase in their pay as compared to the International workers. On the contrary, workers with more experience have shown a slight decrease in their wages, compared to foreign born workers.

Shierholz further confirmed that America was concerned about the declining quality of jobs and the impact it would have on the wages of the natives. But this report clearly depicts that Immigration has little to interfere with all such aspects.

Rather the main aspects behind the declining of job quality are employer’s anti-union tactics, unbalanced foreign trade, to name a few, stated the study’s author.
