New UK Immigration Can Be Successful: Says Research!

A research study carried out by the Global Development Network and the Institute for Public Policy Research, has revealed that migrants who make their way from developing countries to developed countries are likely to improve their income, along help their kins and communities staying back in their native countries. The new research which studied the experience of migrants from such nations also declared that the new UK government’s tightening immigration rules may be a success story.

The research included a total of seven developing countries- Colombia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, Jamaica, Macedonia and Vietnam and the researchers indulged in field work there. According to the report named Development on the Move, immigration is not meant to be looked upon as a problem. This is specifically regarding developmental aspects. This is because immigration offers the migrants an opportunity to bring about changes in their lives for the better. At the same time, it would also help them and their families who are living back home financially. With this, immigrants also return to their country with added skills, resources and networks.

As per the authors, there can be specific plans which could ensure the inflow of people in and out of nations. This is specifically for those coming from developing nations. A proper scheme that has been implemented appropriately would work well than any other policy in this regard. With such schemes in place, there would be a better control over immigration with equal opportunities for everyone.

The research report was released at a time when the UK Coalition government is deciding to impose an immigration limit on non-European Union migrants in order to control the level of immigration or to reduce the level to that of 1990s.
