According to a recent report, New Zealand needs more than 10,000 skilled workers for its various reconstruction projects. The Canterbury Employment and Skills Board or CESB went to United Kingdom to appoint more skilled professionals. To fulfill the skills needed in the country, the Opportunities New Zealand in London and Manchester has also organized two job expos over there.
Over the recent years, New Zealand has regularly been jolted by earthquakes. This Kiwi Land experienced a 6.3-magnitude earthquake near the Christchurch City on the South Island, where 46 people got injured. Earlier, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake occurred during the month of February this year near the same city, where 181 people died and over 1,500 people got injured. It was the deadliest reported disaster since 1931 in New Zealand.
In this connection, the Deputy Chairman of the CESB, Alex Bouma was quoted as saying that skilled workers from the UK can contribute in the rebuilding of the city. He also reportedly mentioned that over the coming 3 to 10 years, there will be a great economic opportunity in the country. The job expos in the UK will play a very vital role and will provide businesses with the human resources that the country needs, he further expressed.
There will be skills needed in Christchurch over the next 10 years, particularly in the sectors like: construction, IT and engineering. According to the Canterbury Skill Shortage List, there will be the need for people with relevant skills, such as: scaffolders, quantity surveyors, urban and regional planners, electricians, mechanics and infrastructure project managers in New Zealand.
Altogether, there are up to 20,000 construction and engineering professionals required in Christchurch and its nearby towns and villages. The applicants with qualifying criteria can apply for a New Zealand Visaunder the Skilled Migrant Category.
With huge infrastructure projects just at the stage of designing, the demand for skilled workforce is likely to increase further. The Immigration officials of the country are hoping that several skilled workers will be persuaded to migrate to the country permanently.
