US President Barack Obama recently addressed the serious issue of illegal immigration publicly for the first time on 2nd July. In a gathering at the American University in Washington, he suggested the Congress government to come up with some policy which would help in resolving the issue of illegal immigration in the US in the best possible way. He further urged on introducing such polices which will have a scope for legalizing the illegal immigrants who have been living in the United States for a very long time.
There are about eleven million people living illegally in the United States and deporting all of them is near to impossible and also many of them have been staying in the country for decades now. In fact, this can also affect the economic condition of the country with local families being largely dependent on overseas domestic help.
President Obama introduced his proposal in concern with the problem of undocumented migrants living in the nation and said that the new policy has to be practical and approaches the problem in a sensible way. His new proposal has a possibility of legalizing the illegal immigrants living in the US for long.
It may involve certain steps for legalizing them such as making them to accept their crime of breaking the law, paying the taxes they owed, paying fines and learning English to get registered as the legal citizens of the United States. Obama said that he has just given some examples but finally legislations would be decided by the Congress only. He further said that new reformation in immigration will also address the problems of US visas and border security as well.
