The India visa granting policies are affecting economic and business relations between the two countries was stated by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Barriers have been exerted in trade and constant incidents of visa denials were seen.
At the Assocham function, Tariq Sadiq the President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry cited that out of the total 350 visa applications in India by Pakistani nationals only 32 were granted approval. The Trade and Economic Counsellor of Pakistan to India, Naeem Anwar said that Pakistan is very interested in promoting trade in India. He further said that constant visa refusals to Pakistani businessmen have hindered the Pakistani business interests in India
In the year 2009, India imported materials worth US $370.17 million dollars, while the exports from India to Pakistan amounted to US$1.4 billion dollars.
Sadiq, the leader of a business delegation in India comprising of 26 members said that the recommendations given by the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) pertaining to trade and visa policies has been quite dampening!
Member-countries of Saarc include Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka and Pakistan. The main aim of coming up with Saarc countries were to benefit trade, culture and economic growth within the member countries.
