Blame it on the relationship between the two countries or the stringent visa norms implemented by India, two facets which led to a huge drop of Pakistani tourist to India. And the drop is a gigantic 46.7%. As far as the other countries are concerned, the tourists from Bangladesh have seen a drop by 48%), UK travelers have decreased by 16% and the ones from Japan by 12%.
Looking back at the statistics from the last two years, the number of Pakistani tourists dropped from 85,529 in 2008 to a number of 45,628 in the year 2009. The number of Bangladesh visitors was 4.58 lakh in 2009.
If the same is seen for 2008, it was much ahead 5.4 lakh. It clearly depicts the huge fall in the number of tourists from the neighboring countries, which in turn is creating huge void in Indian tourism industry.
As far as the travel industry experts are concerned, restrictive visa regime is one of the biggest reasons for this downfall. Security aspects become so rigid that Pakistani tourists are now changing their minds for regarding India as their next prospective destination.
Other statistics depict that US marked the highest number of tourists coming to India with the same slightly dropping from 80.4 lakh in the year 2008 to 80.3 lakh the next year. Interestingly, regions like Central and South America, Africa and South East Asia were amongst those places which sent an increased number of tourists.
