As per a news report, there are apparent indications that the Republican headship in the US Congress is quite devoted to delivering immigration reshuffle this year although it appears that, in case the same arrives, it could not truly mirror President Obama’s wishes, and not be completely on his specific terms and conditions.
Some Republican observers claim that the speaker of the House of Representatives informed the House that higher-ranking Republicans will present a chain of principles for immigration bill sometime early this year, maybe even prior to the beginning of February.
As per the available information, the House is gearing-up to bring-in improvements which may:
- Make it much easier for the American companies to employ specialist manpower from overseas (particularly in the STEM subjects).
- Improve national security to stop further unlawful overseas movement to the country.
- Make the E-Verify arrangement better so that the organizations would be in a position to confirm the immigration position of employees, prior to hiring them.
- Boost the figure of permits up for grabs for low-trained employees in agriculture & construction.
- Give a corridor to citizenship for a section of the 11.5 million individuals presently residing illegitimately in the US.
Single Issue Bills
Allegedly, the House wishes to bring in a chain of single issue bills instead of passing one all-inclusive reform bill which would cover every subject straight away. The said decision brings the Senate & the House, and the Republicans & the Democrats against each other’s and on the opposite side of the fence.
Reportedly, the Democrats have claimed that though they are not ready to give green signal to a chain of single-issue bills, they wish to give their permission to one complete improvement bill. The same is because they have no trust whatsoever in the Republicans even as they opine that they cannot manage the subject of generating a ‘pathway to citizenship’ until and unless the same is connected inextricably with additional reorganizations.
Senate Version of Bill
The US Senate has already given its permission to a bill even as it caters to all such subjects. The bill duly prepared by a bipartisan assembly of senators has been offered by Obama as a concession in which neither group gains all it wishes.
As it is known, the Senate bill is Obama’s chosen selection. With a view to become law, the Senate bill would also have to be given a green signal by the House. However, the Republican speaker–who decides what legislation the House votes on–has declined to permit a vote on the said bill. Still, several pro-immigration crusaders are positive that the Republicans could be prepared to fashion a passageway to citizenship.
