An anti-illegal immigration rally was conducted in downtown Phoenix, Arizona in the United States. During the event, a riot situation occurred which led to the arrest of Dane Rossman and Bryan Reavely. According to the sources from the Police, the two men were throwing rocks at the officers. These officials were trying to calm the riot like situation which occurred when the group of neo-Nazi demonstrators collided with these counter-protestors.
Thick tear gas was used on the protestors when they tried to interrupt the neo-Nazi march. Pepper spray was also fired in order to dissuade the protestors. According to Andy Hill who is a former police officer in Phoenix, not much could be done until the protestors do something violent. The job of the police is to ensure that peace is maintained which the demonstration is being carried by the group which is the constitutional right of these people.
As per Hill, all the police officers were well equipped to do their job which was to aid the neo-Nazi group in reaching safely to the federal courthouse. However, the main aim of the counter protestors was to disrupt the hopes of the neo-Nazis. These people had a permit to conduct a rally which was to expire in the afternoon. This was the main reason behind the protestors blocking the streets.
Witnesses said that there were racial slurs being slung by both the groups at each other. The police was the main barrier between the Anarchists and the neo-Nazis. Above all, immigration is definitely a major issue in the United States which clearly demonstrates in such events. This clearly shows that more concrete measures have to be brought about especially when it comes to such open streets which would harm the public.
