September 2013 the Australian Capital Territory Immigration

Australian Capital Territory “Federal Capital Territory” or ACT as it is popularly known as is a region located in the south eastern part of Australian mainland, nested within New South Wales. This territory houses the capital of the country i.e. Canberra.

ACT is indicated as port of first entry by most of the new entrants into the country and this thriving and prosperous region has gradually gained prominence as center of dense economic activity and houses several high profile businesses. The state nominates several people every year for skills and business Immigration. In the first year program in 2012 over 500 people were selected for subsection 190 provincial nomination permanent residential permits and one candidate was selected for subsection 132 business talent permanent residential permit program.

In July 2013 Australian Capital Territory authorities shortlisted 106 people for Subsection 190 permanent residential permit. To be selected by the provincial government, while creating your EOI on SkillSelect you must indicate this state as a probable for nomination i.e.

  • Subsection 190 permanent skills
  • Subsection 489 provisional skills
  • Subsection 132 Business permanent
  • Subsection 188 Business provisional

For the Australian Skilled Immigration under provincial nomination it is necessary that you must

  • Indicate a trade from the integrated skills tabulation – CSOL
  • Submit evidences of your academic qualifications and professional exposure to the designated evaluation agency and get a positive skills advice
  • Write IELTS examination and score a minimum of IELTS 7 to substantiate your skills at par with atleast OET B
  • Score a minimum of 60 marks in critical profile evaluation process to be deemed eligible for selection for nomination by ACT

In the September 2013 The Australian Capital Territory Immigration department will restart nominating people for temporary and permanent residential permit under skills and business migration. The authorities are going to include some new classes into the state centric required skills tabulation which include

  • 261111 – ICT Business & System Analysts
  • 263311 – Telecommunications Engineering Professionals.
  • 261399 – Software and Applications Programmers
  • 222312 – Financial Investment Managers
  • 232111 – Architects
  • 321111 – Automotive Electricians
  • 351311 – Chefs
  • 232311 – Fashion Designers

In September, the Australian Capital Territory has announced that they will re-commence nominations for a number of new skilled occupations, in addition to the large number of occupations they already offer sponsorship for. This is great news for potential migrants looking to start a new life Down Under.

Sponsored migration through a state government allows the applicant and their family to reside permanently in Australia, providing they commit to live and work in the state that nominates them for their first 2 years in the country. Importantly, different states sponsor different occupations depending on their individual needs.
