Principal applicants under New Zealand Parent Retirement Category are required to demonstrate that they have the ability to support themselves and their partner, as well as dependent children (in case, if there is) who are included in the residence class visa application during the four year investment period in New Zealand.
Settlement funds requirements
At the first place, principal applicants are required to nominate a minimum of 1 million NZ Dollars as investment funds. In addition, they must also demonstrate that they have the ownership of a minimum of 0.5 million NZ dollars, along with a minimum annual income of 60,000 NZ Dollars at the time of filing the residence class visa application.
Ownership of settlement funds
The ownership of the settlement funds refers to the fact that the funds must entirely be owned by the principal applicant, or concurrently by the principal applicant and his/her partner or dependent children who are being included in the visa application. The principal applicant, however, may claim the full value of concurrently owned funds or assets for assessment purposes, given the business immigration specialists are convinced with the fact that the principal applicant and partner have been living together for 1 year or over more in a genuine and stable partnership.
The funds or assets can also be help concurrently by the principal applicant and a third person other than his/her partner or dependent children. In this case, the principal applicant is able to claim the value of that portion of the funds/assets for which he/she can provide ownership evidence.

- Funds held in a New Zealand bank account(s);
- Funds held in an offshore bank account(s), however, the funds must be accessed from the kiwi country;
- Appropriate evidence of net assets, no matter whether the assets are in the Kiwi country or outside the country.
Annual income requirements
