Who is an adult child?

Under the Sibling and Adult Child Category, an adult child is the one who is 18 year old or more, unless he/she is dependent.

What is an immediate family?

  • Under the Sibling and Adult Child Category, an immediate family comprises the principal applicant’s biological, as well as adoptive parents; and all brothers and sisters.
  • Immediate family of the principal applicant may also include his/her step-parents, as well as step-siblings. However, for his purpose, the applicant must provide the evidence that the family members have lived a major part of their life as part of the principal applicant’s family unit after the step-relationship was established.

Who is an adult sibling for sponsorship purposes?

  • An adult sibling is a sibling who is 18 year old or more.
  • Adult siblings may also include siblings who are 18 to 24-year old, given they satisfy the immigration officials that they are able to meet their sponsorship undertakings.

What is an acceptable offer of employment?

  • An acceptable employment offer refers to an offer which is sustainable. The employment agreement may be with one New Zealand employ, or may be for more than one contract for minimum of six months. For this purpose, the principal applicant must provide evidence that could support that the he/she have had minimum 24 months of contract work; AND
  • An acceptable employment is a full-time offer; AND
  • The offer must be current at the time of assessing the application and at the time of granting the visa; AND
  • The offer must be genuine; AND
  • The offer must be for a position that is paid by salary or wages; AND
  • The offer must come along with full or provisional registration. This is especially required when the law asks for the registration; AND
  • The offer must be comply with all the relevant employment law in force in the Kiwi country.

What is a full-time employment?

An employment is full-time if that employment amounts to, on average, at least 30 hours per week.

What is an ongoing and sustainable employment?

  • An ongoing and sustainable offer refers to a current employment with a single employer. The employment offer must be permanent, or for indefinite time or for a term of minimum 1 year with an option for further the terms; OR
  • An employment on a contract basis can also be an ongoing and sustainable employment, given:
        (a) The applicant has a consistent background of contract work; AND
        (b) The applicant has a current contract for services; AND
      (c) If the New Zealand Immigration is satisfied that such contract work is likely to sustain.
