Every year, with about 250,000 immigrants, the government of Canada is encouraged to introduce more programs to provide necessary help to the new immigrants to the country and to make them feel comfortable in adapting the lifestyle of Canada, particularly in smaller communities.
Though the Canadian government is trying to help new immigrants to the country in every possible way, yet, many of them initially face difficulties to get adjusted in the living atmosphere of the nation. Therefore, to help these immigrants, a number of non-profit organizations are introducing certain programs in this regard.
The Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre has organized Crossroads program which is one of many settlement assistance programs for new immigrants. This program has offered some effective courses like: business courses and English language courses for new Canada immigrants. These programs are particularly made to provide necessary assistance to new Canadian immigrants for settling their life in this new country and preparing themselves for the Canadian working cultures.
Livianna Tossutti, a Professor of Brock University was quoted as saying that programs like Crossroads helps these newcomers in their easy integration into the economic, social and cultural scenario of the new country. Moreover, through these assisting programs, they get the opportunity to learn about the services provided by the government of the nation, community resources and employment facilities available to them. It also helps the new immigrants to make new friends and expand their contact network in the country.
However, these programs are usually provided in heavily populated cities with 68.9% immigration settlement. Therefore, the smaller communities have to carry out similar types of programs to attract more immigrants to Canada.
It is seemed that several immigrant families come out of the smaller communities and move towards more populated and helpful localities. It is due to that fact that newcomers to the country feel alienated in smaller communities. Moreover, finding jobs in smaller communities often becomes more difficult in compared to larger communities. Native people from small communities do not understand the prospective contribution of the new immigrants who can help in the growth of native economy and the nation as a whole.
Immigration is a very vital source of present and future growth of population and economy of the country. By providing programs that help the Canadian newcomers, smaller communities can actually motivate the highly trained migrants to the country. Particularly, the positive attitude of the people in small communities can help in making smooth transition in this regard.
