An article in the Wall Street Journal captivated my interest. The heading “When Security Takes Longer than Flight,” in itself elaborates the dilemma faced by the passengers flying from Canada to other places! The article mentions an interesting point that the regulations demand you to go through eight line ups before clearing all the security formalities and that’s why the heading!
Travelers heading towards the United States have to face stringent security checks, especially after a failed attempt of bombing an American airplane on 25th December 2009. The security officials go till the extent of frustrating the passengers, ending up emptying their carry bags, hand bags and sometimes their wallets and other items too.
These rules would be strictly followed until high-tech devices are not implemented, confirms an official. The scenario becomes worse in busy springs and travel season! It has almost become a regular scene to face delays lasting more than three hours and face plenty of hassles with each security check.
Sometimes, the check demands a strict second screening process which includes evacuating pockets, bags, wallets and bags and scrutinizing all the contents carefully. In addition to rigid security checks, passengers have to face restrictions including remain seated in plane for the later hours of the flight, to name a few. Some of them were removed last month!
Also an official from Transportation Security Administration states that the agency would ensure that flights bound for the U.S. would face high level of security.
The whole process looks justifiable from the security’s point of view, but considering the hassles faced by the innocent passengers, it surely calls for some serious thinking by the Federal Government!
