Reports from The Times of India claim that almost one-third of the Indian student applications has been declined by DIAC between July and October of last year – primary reason being an accusation of “documentation fraud” by the students. Another reason being that majority of students ended up overestimating their cash reserves, leaving DIAC in a state of limbo, whether these students would be able to meet the expenses for their academic pursuits or not.

The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship refused 21,120 student-visa applications, a rise of almost 6.5% as compared to the year 2008. Stats further say that Nepal shows the highest student visa refusal rate (46%) with Pakistan just behind at 41.7%.

With so many issues (such as racial attacks, stringent measures, to name a few) happening at one point, Australia is surely losing its applauded status for being a worthy destination for studying abroad.
