It is just overwhelming to learn that the leading voice of the United States’ technology industry, TechAmerica, a non-profit foundation is urging the Congress to increase the number of H-1B visas for foreign highly skilled workers. The said visa which is hugely popular among international skilled workers is capped at 65,000, but the TechAmerica Foundation hopes US employers to have access to more visas.
The foundation appeals the Congress for a revisit to the visa system and to facilitate more highly skilled workers to enter the nation under the H-1B and L-1 visa schemes, especially to meet the nation’s requirement of scientists and engineers. However, it is too tricky to comment on whether the Congress would take note of the request immediately, from at least next year, since the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services is all set to accept petitions for H1-B visas from April 1 for the financial year 2012 with the limit of 65,000 visas.
According to TechAmerica, the prevailing immigration system in the US is holding back the nation from participating in the global competition, preventing innovation and employment options. The only way to open the doors for innovation and to make itself competitive on the international level, the nation must reform its high-skilled immigration policy. The country must keep the provision open for the brightest talents to enter in high flow and make significant contribution to the economy.
It would be good especially for Indians if the US government agrees to have more H-1B visas for international highly skilled workers, since Indians comprise the highest community to grab the visa every year.
