The immigration authorities in Philippines are being trained in the aspect of customer service so as to improve their skills in communications. A training course for duration of three days is being conducted for the officers in the immigration department. The training sessions would include conflict management, policy and procedure updates, business etiquette, courtesy and discipline.
According to Ronaldo Ledesma, the Officer-in-Charge for the Philippines Bureau of Immigration, this training has been organized in an effort to make the process of immigration and visa in Philippines more customer-oriented. The immigration officers are the first officials the foreigners get in touch with at the airports. This makes it vital for these authorities to present an image which is positive as well as professional.
On the other hand, illegal migration being an issue of important concern with many traffickers and smugglers indulging in such heinous crimes, this training also caters to the identification of such key issues.
Aspects of the training also include handling crime, human trafficking, smuggling of drugs and other key threats to the national security. At the same time, it would also promote legal transport of goods and commodity and for the immigrants to travel legally to the nation.
This program can be considered as a good investment for the personnel in the department to be equipped with all the relevant skills which are required to cater to the needs in such times.
