UK government decides to put an end to child detention!

UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg formally announced the shut down of immigration related child detention cases by May next year. He said that no detention centre retains any child currently and this will be the situation for Christmas too. This is because child protection is given utmost importance by UK government despite of the chaotic situation at the borders of UK.

But a child could still be held in independently in the prior to departure accommodation for at least 72 hours, as a last measure before their return. The minister said that the government took the task of wiping out child detention practices as soon as it took charge.

Clegg said that this announcement will reshift the cultural aspect related to immigration. The curb on child detention would lay emphasis on what they truly believe and also lay utmost importance to the protection of children. This act would prioritize their activities instead of giving the impression of being very tough.

Bedfordshire based Yarl’s Wood immigration centre will witness the shut down of its family wing.

Clegg said that the civilized society is tested by the manner it treats its children. Last year approx 1000 innocent children had been placed behind the bars. These children were picked from their homes before any prior notice and imprisoned. Clegg said that the order of the immigration system has to be maintained at the same time they got to be compassionate and more humane in their approach.

Conferences will be organized for the families to discuss their deportation to the home country, welfare, medical issues and any other concerns. The families may also be offered some return packages voluntarily on assistance.

Even before the families choose to return to their country they will be provided 72 hours stay in the prior to departure accommodation where the children can choose to walk out from the place under specific supervision.
