A recent report by UKBA – claimed that the UK is unable to locate approximate 150,000 illegal migrants – who are residing in the region even after expiration of their visa. Insisting on the report, the UKBA has expressed a clear intention of identifying and removing such illegal migrants from the country.
The report came from Chief Inspector of the UKBA John Vine, made it clear that there is no strategy by Home Office to search the number of visa overstayers are still residing in the country illegally. Vine claimed that the spotting such illegal migrants and removing them from the country is not seen as the primary concern for the agency.
Taking on the recently released report, Damian Green, UK Immigration Minister, stated that strategy has been taken since the first criticism was made about the agency.
“Indeed we have a strategy to tackle the situation and we have been definitely concentrating on such overstayers,” Green said.
He further revealed, “We have successfully executed our plan for the same and removed 1800 of such illegal migrants.”
Revealing more facts about the report, Vine said that the UK immigration official admitted that it is really impossible to find out the details of all 150,000 migrants living in the country illegally as we don’t have much information in this regard of how many people had been refused to extend their visa.
UKBA further reported that nearly 40 per cent of such migrants had not even been served with the documents – asking them to leave the country within the time duration of 28 days. The agency however often shown its concern for keeping an eye on such migrants and has full strategy to deal with them.
The Migration Refusal Pool (MRP) plays an effective role in this regard – a tool that is being used to identify the suspected workers whose applications have been actually refused for further extension and have not left the country yet.
