The H2B working visa allows international workers to work in the US on a temporary basis. The US employers can use the H-2B to employ workers to deal with various facets like peak load, seasonal employment, one-time occurrence or intermittent needs.
According to the Save Our Small and Seasonal Businesses Act of 2005 (SOS Act), there are 66,000 H-2B visas available each year, which are further divided into two parts.
- Allocation of 33,000 visas for employment starting in the 1st half (October 1 – March 31) of the FY
- Allocation of 33,000 visas for employment beginning in the 2nd half (April 1 – September 30) of the FY
