The widow of a US Marine is hoping to stay in the US, courtesy a changed US Immigration Law. Hota Ferschke from Japan tied knot with Michael H Ferschke Jr through proxy during the time when he was serving overseas as a sergeant in the US Marines.
He died after a month into their marriage, leaving his wife to fight for her stay in America as the Immigration laws of the nation are unsupportive for unconsummated knots. The bride was intending to stay back in America to take care of her son, who was expected before the groom faced deployment.
Hence, certain amendments were proposed in the bill which was intended towards the immigration law of the nation to recognize proxy marriages which are concerned with people who are serving in military services.
The bill saw clearance in the House of Representatives and would now move to the Senate for the ultimate approval. If implemented, the woman would be able to live in the country, overcoming the restrictions imposed by the immigration laws.
The amendment would NOT apply to all the cases of such marriages. It would be applicable for exception where the failure to finish/complete the knot is occurred due to physical separation, courtesy any kind of active-duty services performed in military aboard by either of the persons.
If implemented, if would be a big relief for people like Hota who are fighting for their stay in the nation.
