Much concerned over the reported cases of ill-treatment of the workers from abroad at the hands of their overseas employers across certain nations of Asia and the Middle East, a number of global workers rights organizations have strongly asked the labor ministers of the many countries of the involved region to positively address the serious matter even while they work for additional protections for such workers.
They urged the involved local officers from the involved nations to campaign against such rulings and policies which do not do much justice to the cause of such workers and leave them at the danger of being seriously ill-treated and exploited by their foreign masters.
Meanwhile, a concerned person was quoted as saying that heightened regional cooperation is something very necessary and rather vital for improving the overall protection of the rights of such workers. He continued that it was essential to find out what was taking place, adding more opportunities for real involvement was something needed very urgently.
It is no secret that workers from abroad play a key role in the economic development of the nations wherein they could be working. During 2011, the World Bank (WB) had predicted that the overseas workers from Asia sent back US$191 billion to their home nations.
Presently, nearly one-tenth of the total populace of country of Philippines works abroad. Still, some overseas workers’ rights bodies claim that several overseas workers are at rather high risk of being ill-treatment at the hands of their insensitive foreign employers.
