In order to work in Australia, an applicant should have work experience in a profession that is mentioned in the ANZSCO list that has been brought out by the Australian government. This list consists of all the occupations for which the nation is short of skilled labor. Based on this list, the applicants can apply for immigration and live and work in Australia.

The ANZSCO consists of two sub lists known as the Schedule 3 and Schedule 4. Those occupations which are mentioned in the Schedule 3 list have to be applied for through the General Skilled Migrant program. However, those mentioned in Schedule 4 are to be applied for through the Sponsored (State Nomination/Blood Relation) or under Regional Programs. A total of 120 points have to be scored in both the cases to be eligible for immigration. The profession of Chemical Engineers appears on both the above sub lists. This gives an option to the applicant to apply in either of the above categories.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supervising the operations and ensuring equipment maintenance so as to accomplish maximum efficiency under safe environment.
  • Developing designs for the chemical process systems, planning for the processes of the control systems which effect the chemical changes, removing and separating elements and so on.
  • Assessing data for the product failures, suggesting on ways that could overcome problems, executing laboratory rests so as to determine or reject possible causes.
  • Analyzing problems pertaining to pollution control as well as the utilization of a product.
  • Consulting with the material producers which include components for specific product applications.

Apart from the above, there are additional responsibilities which the professional would be expected to perform.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher education.
  • In some cases, both qualification as well as relevant experience is required to qualify for the same.
  • On the job training might be required in specific cases.
