233112 Materials Engineer in Australia!

The ANZSCO list has been brought out by the Government of Australia which has a list of those occupations which is short of skilled labor in the labor. Based on this list, foreign skilled professionals are invited to apply for immigration. The ANZSCO list contains two sub lists known as the Schedule 3 and Schedule 4 list.

The Schedule 3 consists of occupations which have to be applied through the General Skilled Migrant program where as those in Schedule 4 has to be applied through the Sponsored (State Nomination/Blood Relation) or under Regional Programs. When it comes to the occupation of Materials Engineer, it appears in both the above lists which provides with an option for the applicant to apply. A total of 120 points have to be scored in order to qualify for immigration.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Monitoring to see that the right equipment and materials are being used and they are as per the specifications.
  • Identifying the malfunctioning in the chemical plants and establishing a remedy for the same.
  • Assessing the plans for submission of material selection as well as for new products.
  • Holding consultations with the material producers regarding specific product applications.
  • Catering to suggestions in relation to the specifications of the design along with other factors like weight, cost and strength.

Apart from the above, there are additional responsibilities which the professional would be expected to perform.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher education.
  • In some cases, both qualification as well as relevant experience is required to qualify for the same.
  • On the job training might be required in specific cases.
