3,516 availed the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme!

Reports say that as many as 3,516 visitors went on to avail the Visa on Arrival (VoA) scheme, the same which was implemented by the Indian government to bring more ands more of overseas visitors to India. The statistics are noted from the period of January till July.

The scheme came into action in January in the year 2010 and was meant for the nationals of countries like Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Singapore, who have intentions of coming to India for the purpose of tourism.

The statistics further say that Delhi issued the maximum number if visas (1,838). This number was followed by Mumbai which issued 769 and Chennai for which the number was 727.

The government has further confirmed that Singapore tourists topped the list when it came to the maximum number of visitors using this scheme. 1,164 tourists came from Singapore as far as these seven months are concerned. The next country in the list was New Zealand, for which the number was 856, Finland, for which 847 tourists were recorded and finally Japan which gave 625 tourists in number.

July alone witnessed 365 such visas alone. Amongst these 104 visitors were from Japan, 124 were from Singapore, the land of Kiwis gave 88 tourists while 45 came from Finland.

The statistics point out in the direction that the scheme has been a hit with the overseas tourists.
