New Zealand Minister of Immigration, Nathan Guy, revealed that New Zealand enthusiastically welcomed overseas immigrants, students and temporary workers, in his speech on Friday (August 31, 2012). His speech clearly emphasized on New Zealand’s immigration policy and a new strategy to captivate more skilled workers and passive investors in the country.
In an interaction with New Zealand Association for Migration and investment, Guy stated that immigration created a positive impact on the growth of economy and makes it prosper. He expressed his hope with the express education could offer hefty revenues for New Zealand’s economy and also unveiled several important steps to make country prepare for welcoming a mass arrivals in the form of asylum seekers and refugees.
Reconstructing of Christchurch, badly affected by an earthquake in 2011, got a major place in his speech – emphasized that – it requires large number of workers as the local people with the skills are not enough to fill the requirements. New Zealand has taken a major step to entertain the people with the required skills will be issued visa without any delay. The country has already issued over 300 skilled worker visas.
Revealing the importance of export education for New Zealand and its economy, he asserted that it will help the country to reconstruct Canterbury and of course will make a positive impact on economic development. The government has showed its willingness to entice students in the city of Christchurch, wherein they will be allowed to work up to 20 hours in a week, while studying. Indeed, it is a great step to attract more students to access the region.
He further revealed that export education already generated revenues of NZ$2.3bn per year and the government is fully committed towards doubling the current figure. He also pointed out that there would be a privilege for some key migrants to allow their family to reside with them once they settle down in New Zealand.
