Australian government has decided to make certain restorations in the Immigration rules. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has made it clear that he is more eager to deter skilled workers from immigration to the Oz land than illegal applicants. The changes announced would classify the list of occupations, used to pick prospective and eligible migrants. The amendments would lead to the cancellation of almost 20,000 prospective applicants, including Indians also.
Rudd further elaborated that the Aussie government needs to adjust the skill system in order to cater the needs of the current Australian economy. Therefore, they need to make adjustments for the future in order to get the right skills mix. He said this in a tone of defending the latest amendments made in the Immigration rules.
Under the overhaul, development of a targeted list would take place and would be reviewed in an annual manner. Also, it is mandatory to have good English language skills in order to migrate to Australia.
Some foreign student applicants will lose the chance to apply for a PR because the employment for which they have enrolled themselves in a particular course may no longer be present on the skilled list. Scott Morrison, opposition immigration spokesman elaborated that the changes would surely affect the education sector in a major way.
Mends would now require the affected students to apply for a “Temporary Skilled Graduate Visa” in order to reside in the country. This would lead many students in a state of limbo. It is also mandatory to have work experience or get a sponsorship from an Australian employer.
