Canada has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Taiwan in terms of working holiday program. The agreement, which would be effective from July 1 this year, would allow people from both the countries to find employment while they are vacationing within each country.
Once the agreement is effective, young citizens, aged between eighteen and thirty-five from both Canada and Taiwan would be able to look for work in specific industries for a maximum time period of one year when they are holidaying. According to executive director of the Canadian Trade Office on Taipei, the agreement between the two countries would give the countries’ respective youth a different experience of traveling, working in the foreign land and understanding each other’s culture. It is also expected that the newly signed memorandum would also promote Taiwanese tourism to Canada. Reportedly, the popularity of tourism industry of Taiwan has declined over the last few years.
Initially, a quota of 200 multiple entry visa will be granted when the agreement comes into effect on July 1, 2010. The number however, will be increased for the coming years only if the program succeeds with its aim.
With Canada signing the Memorandum of Understanding, it becomes the fourth country to sign such an agreement with Taiwan. Other countries include Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Besides, countries, which are into similar agreements with Canada, include Japan and South Korea.
