Tanzania has officially deferred the visa requirements for the people of Burundi intending to travel to the nation. The visa-free restrictions have been implemented from March 17th, according to official sources.
The statement from the letter from the Department of Immigration stated that waiving of the requirements directly mean that it is not any more mandatory for the citizens of Burundi to pay visa fee before walking inside the country on a legal basis.
The conclusion was exposed in public when it was initially exchanged with Burundian Minister Hafsa Mossi by Tanzanian Minister Dr Diodorus Buberwa Kamala. The former then confirmed that she demanded a written paper for the confirmation of the same.
The amendments have come, keeping in line with the East African Community (EAC), hence providing a huge relief to the nationals of Burundi. The Department of Immigration has confirmed that it has acquainted all the Tanzanian embassies along with the Immigration delegates regarding the waiving off, in order to ensure a smooth functioning at all the ports in the country.
Richard Othieno Owora from EAC stated that the idea is to enhance the free movement of immigrants in the territory.
The move has come with reference to the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC. Burundi, along with other countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda is an integral member of the EAC.
All in all, a good move, especially for the betterment for the nationals of Burundi.
