2009 Saw Half a Million Migration In 2009

According to the Canadian Immigration Department, more than 500,000 applicants moved to Canada in the year 2009, a move which applauds Canada as one of the most prospective countries to immigrate for overseas applicants.

According to the official website, the higher quantity of immigrants who have moved to the country has helped the economy come out of the global recession. Immigration minister Jason Kenney the economy gained momentum to recover throughout the year 2009 and the aspect of more and more people moving to the country would support this momentum further.

The minister maintained as to why the number of immigrants rose to this margin. it was due to country’s demand to meet its economic needs, along with offsetting its aging population and maintaining the workforce required in the country. Stats prove that out of the total people who migrated to Canada, 252,124 came out to be the new Permanent Residents. When compared with the statistics from the 1990s, the current quantity is almost 30,000 more than the average as compared with the former. Apart from the PR status, Canada didn’t lack behind in granting temporary work visas too. 178,640 of the same were granted to allow overseas applicants get employed in the country on a temporary basis.

Student visas also saw a massive increase in its quantity. 85,131 overseas applicants were issued the same in the year 2009. The number has risen by 7 percent, hence counting for the highest number of overseas applicants ever moved to Canada to study.
