Pizza Delivery Drivers Go Against Student Work Permits!

The delivery boys working for Pizza Hut in New Zealand are facing a dilemma these days. Some of them have been barred from working for the company as they are found breaching the regulations decked with their student work permits. Reports say that some are told to hide their undocumented status and re-apply for the same occupation without telling anything about their immigration status. It may be seen as a step which could see their employers falling into immigration scam.

As far as the rules are concerned, the overseas students who apply for work permit are given the freedom to work for 20 hours in a week but self employment is just not granted.

But according to the employment from Pizza Hut, these delivery boys get the tag of “independent contractors” hence earning the tag of self employed people, a facet which is strictly against the rules of Immigration authorities.

According to Allan Simons, who is the operations manager at Pizza Hut, has confirmed that an internal office mail has been sent to these people, acquainting them of their termination as soon as possible. The email targets 85 delivery boys who are currently working on the Student Permit.

According to the Immigration authorities, the employer would be breaching the regulations if after knowing all this; they still recruit employers who have broken the Immigration laws.

Head of Immigration New Zealand, Nigel Bickle said that the agency would hold talks with the employers on this issue.
