This woman lived through constant beatings and was raped for decades together by her husband. Based on her condition, she has secured the right to reside in the United States.

According to the experts, domestic violence is definitely one of the reasons which can be deemed valid for seeking asylum. It was found by the Department of Homeland Security that the victim was only known by the initials – L.R. She had shown that the Government of Mexico was not ready to protect her. Finding her case favorable, he was granted asylum by an immigration judge. This decision was announced by her attorneys a few days back. They also said that this case is the second case of asylum which has been approved on the basis of allegations pertaining to domestic violence.

At the same time, when it comes to cases pertaining to abuse and violence, they tend to lead to a lot of controversies. Traditionally, it has been seen that asylum has been granted to only those individuals who are being oppressed by the specific government from where these individuals belong.
