100,000 Hispanics Left Arizona, Says Report!

The controversial immigration law in Arizona has led to about 100,000 Hispanics to depart from the state voluntarily. This is as per a study which was recently released. This report was released by the private BBVA Bancomer foundation. It was brought out at a Global Forum on Migration and Development in Puerto Vallarta.

According to this report, many months after the execution of this law, less number of Hispanics have been observed to be residing in the state. If the estimates are to be believed, there are about 100,000 less Hispanics in the state when compared to the beginning of the year. The report states that this sudden reduction in the number of Hispanic residents can be mainly to the execution of this law.

However, it is not yet clear whether or not these Hispanics have left the nation. It is being assumed that most of these people are still residing in some other part of the United States.

Arizona had a total population of 6.6 million people. Of these, thirty percent constitute of Hispanics. This is as per the data from the US census. This thirty percent included one third who were not born in the United States. These also include an estimation of 460,000 undocumented migrants.

Jan Brewer, the Governor of Arizona had executed this law which gave broader powers to the local law enforcement agencies making them act as immigration agents. However, some of the key provisions in the law were blocked by a federal judge days before this law was to be implemented. One such clause includes it being a crime for immigrants not carrying their documents at all times.

Above all, this clearly projects the fear that must have come about among the local residents. The law also being a platform for racial profiling was definitely a key reason for many Hispanics to leave the state for the good.
