If Deported, She Would Be Killed!

Asha Rani, a woman from India claims that she would be killed to death if she would be deported back to India (her home country) from Canada.

The woman is affirming that she would be succumbed to honor killing after she lost her bid to reside in Canada and has been ordered deportation back to Punjab. She stated to an Immigration and Refugee Board that her brother would torment her for bringing shame to her clan as she was occupied in a living-in relationship with her boyfriend in Punjab. She was in this relationship for eight long years.

She arrived in Canada in the year 2007 and filed a claim for refugee status which ultimately faced rejection.

Judge David Near in a statement said that the woman fears persecution through her brother and the overall society for living with a man without tying knot with him. This act of hers has brought dishonor to the entire kin.

Rani went on to say that during her stay with her boyfriend, her clan closed all the contacts with her and she was not allowed to see her ailing mother at that time. She also faced threats that she would be killed by her brother.

Allegations are that she even faced abuses by her boyfriend before she escaped to Canada with his mate.

This is the second case when a GTA woman has claimed of facing threats of deaths, courtesy honor killings. Earlier, Roohi Tabassum, 45, of Brampton, faced an impending refugee appeal after she left her spouse in Pakistan.
