Bill Introduced in Utah for the Undocumented!

Senator Luz Robles and The Sutherland Institute which is a conservative think tank are collaborating to draft a new immigration bill. This bill might cater to an option for the illegal migrants in Utah who would want to be legally employed in the state. As per the Senator, there are about 110,000 illegal migrants in the state. Most of these people are seeking employment and intend to be productive members of the society.

He also brought about a legislation called the Utah Pilot Accountability Permit Program which is still in its inception stages. This program intends to cater with permit cards to all the undocumented migrants. These permit cards would make grant them the permission to be legally employed. However, these migrants have to undergo a criminal background check. Also, they have to pay taxes as well as take up classes for English and civics. At the same time, it has been clarified that this program is neither amnesty nor a way to acquire citizenship.

According to Robles, immigration is a federal concern. At the same time, the government has not been able to resolve the issue which has been hanging for decades together. The state has been catering to solutions which have been proactive and reactionary in nature.

Paul Mero, President for The Sutherland Institute has supported the above bill. He has considered this legislation in Utah as being more conservative but would held the illegal migrants accountable for residing in the state. The second option here is that has been suggested by Representative Sandstrom.

The bill by Representative Stephen Sandstrom caters to law enforcements checking the immigration status of the migrants who have been stopped by the local police. Here, the police would be compelled to transfer these suspects to the immigration officials, provided they are suspected of being illegal migrants.
