Canada is such a country that always attracts people. Once people are right there in the country, their dream extends to sponsor their family or close relatives to Canada in order to live with the entire family in this fabulous country. The Canadian government offers the scope for foreign nationals who are now citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their family, given both the Canadian resident and the to-be-sponsored family member meet all the requirements set by the immigration department.
Foremostly, in order to sponsor family members and close relatives, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident must be at least 18-year-old or above. The country’s family reunification policy allows a citizen or resident to sponsor his/her parents; grandparent; siblings, which are unmarried; nephews and nieces; and grandsons or granddaughters, who are orphaned and aged below 18.
A sponsor is entitled to certain obligations. Before he/she is allowed to sponsor a family member or relative, the person must meet income requirements. Income is indispensable because the sponsor is required to support the sponsored relative once they are in Canada. A sponsor may be responsible for the sponsored person’s financial assistance for a minimum period of 3 years and a maximum of 10 years. The duration is generally determined by the relation the sponsored person shared with the sponsor.
A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can be denied to sponsor a family member or relative if he/she had previously sponsored a person and failed to meet the sponsorship undertakings. There are other reasons as to why people are barred from sponsoring relatives to Canada.
