Commerce Minister Anand Sharma recently talked about the “Doha Round of Global Trade Talks,” stating that the talks are going on, but in a slower manner. He stated that the kind of progress which was expected by now, has not taken place till date. It is a known fact that the talks began in the year 2001, but became dilemma since the initial conception. The focus was to ensure that developing countries to have a definite share in the development and advancement of the world trade corresponding to their own financial needs. In addition, there were other issues too.
The Minister was in New York, for a meeting with Indian business officials, where he signed a document marking the boost between the trade relations of both the nations.
Additionally, a meeting would be held between the members of World Trade Organization next week. It would take the talks to the next level. Sharma affirmed that success of these talks would further boost global trade!
He also commented that it is totally a fictitious thing to say that Indians are snatching the jobs from Americans after immigrating to their country. He said that this perception is entirely false!
Contrary to this belief, it is a fact that Indian BPO firms have generated more than $106 billion in the U.S., hence enhancing their economy in a major way. It means that Indian firms are playing a huge role in boosting employment in America. Therefore, where is the question of snatching their jobs? Rather, the past three years have seen a generation of more than 3 lacs jobs, almost 75% of which has been filled by the U.S. people itself.
